Position Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Kindergarten English Teacher to deliver engaging English instruction to young learners (ages 3-6) using picture books as the primary teaching tool. The successful candidate will create a joyful, interactive learning environment that fosters language acquisition, literacy development, and a lifelong love of reading.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Instruction:

  • Teach English to kindergarten students (ages 3-6) in small group or class settings

  • Use picture books as the primary resource for language instruction

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons

  • Implement play-based, child-centered teaching approaches

  • Use songs, games, stories, and hands-on activities

  • Create immersive English language environment

  • Adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and abilities

Picture Book-Based Learning:

  • Select and utilize high-quality English picture books

  • Read aloud with expression, enthusiasm, and proper pronunciation

  • Use picture books to teach vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension

  • Integrate picture books with art, drama, music, and movement

  • Encourage prediction, discussion, and critical thinking

  • Foster love of reading and storytelling

  • Create extension activities based on picture books

Language Development:

  • Develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and pre-writing skills

  • Teach phonics, vocabulary, and basic grammar through stories

  • Use Total Physical Response (TPR) and natural language acquisition methods

  • Provide opportunities for student interaction and communication

  • Correct errors gently and encourage risk-taking

  • Build students' confidence in using English

  • Track language development progress

Classroom Management:

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and stimulating classroom environment

  • Establish routines and expectations appropriate for young learners

  • Manage classroom behavior with patience and positive reinforcement

  • Ensure classroom safety and cleanliness

  • Organize materials, books, and learning resources

  • Display student work and create print-rich environment

Assessment & Reporting:

  • Observe and document student progress and participation

  • Use informal assessment methods appropriate for young children

  • Provide feedback to parents on student development

  • Maintain records of attendance and progress

  • Identify students needing additional support

  • Celebrate student achievements and milestones

Parent Communication:

  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress

  • Provide guidance on supporting English learning at home

  • Recommend picture books and reading activities for home

  • Address parent questions and concerns

  • Build positive relationships with families

  • Participate in parent meetings and events

Curriculum Planning:

  • Develop weekly and monthly lesson plans

  • Select appropriate picture books for different levels and themes

  • Create teaching materials, props, and visual aids

  • Plan thematic units integrating multiple skills

  • Incorporate seasonal and cultural celebrations

  • Adapt curriculum based on student needs and interests

Professional Development:

  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions

  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and teaching strategies

  • Stay current with early childhood education best practices

  • Reflect on teaching practice and seek improvement

  • Share ideas and resources with team members

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree (any major; Education, English, or Early Childhood preferred)

  • TEFL/TESOL certificate (120 hours minimum) or teaching certification

  • Experience teaching English to young learners (kindergarten age)

  • Native or near-native English proficiency

  • Excellent pronunciation and clear speaking voice

  • Experience with picture book-based teaching or story-telling

  • Understanding of child development (ages 3-6)

  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young children

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability

  • Clean criminal background check

Preferred:

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or TESOL

  • CELTA, DELTA, or PGCE certification

  • Experience teaching in China or Asia

  • Knowledge of phonics programmes (Jolly Phonics, Letterland, etc.)

  • Experience with drama, music, or art integration

  • Basic Mandarin Chinese skills (helpful but not required)

  • Familiarity with popular English picture books and children's literature

  • Experience with classroom management for young learners

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Up to 20,000 RMB/month (based on qualifications and experience)
