We are seeking a versatile and enthusiastic A-Level English and Geography Teacher to join our Humanities department. This unique dual-subject role offers the opportunity to teach both A-Level English (Language and/or Literature) and A-Level Geography to senior students. The successful candidate will inspire students in both subjects, prepare them for Cambridge International examinations, and contribute to our vibrant academic community. This position is ideal for a teacher with interdisciplinary interests and a passion for connecting literature, language, and global issues.
A-Level English Teaching:
Teach A-Level English Language and/or English Literature to senior students
Develop students' critical thinking, analytical writing, and communication skills
Prepare students for Cambridge A-Level English examinations
Teach literary analysis, essay writing, and creative writing
Facilitate discussions on classic and contemporary texts
Provide constructive feedback on essays and coursework
Support students with university personal statements and applications
A-Level Geography Teaching:
Teach A-Level Geography (Physical and Human Geography) to senior students
Deliver engaging lessons on topics including:
Physical Geography: tectonic processes, coastal systems, water cycles, climate change
Human Geography: global systems, governance, population, migration, urban environments
Contemporary environmental and social issues
Conduct fieldwork and geographical investigations
Prepare students for A-Level Geography examinations
Develop students' research, data analysis, and evaluation skills
Integrate GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and technology where appropriate
Interdisciplinary Connections:
Create meaningful connections between English and Geography curricula
Explore themes of place, identity, culture, and environment through literature
Develop students' understanding of global issues through multiple perspectives
Integrate travel writing, environmental literature, and place-based narratives
Promote critical literacy and geographical thinking
Design cross-curricular projects and assignments
Assessment & Examination Preparation:
Design formative and summative assessments for both subjects
Prepare students for Cambridge A-Level examinations in English and Geography
Mark coursework and provide detailed feedback
Monitor and track student progress using data analysis
Conduct mock examinations and targeted intervention
Maintain accurate records of student achievement
Support students with examination techniques and time management
Fieldwork & Experiential Learning:
Plan and lead Geography fieldwork activities (local and potentially residential)
Organize educational trips related to both subjects
Integrate real-world experiences into classroom learning
Ensure safety and risk management for all off-site activities
Collaborate with other departments on interdisciplinary trips
Student Support & Enrichment:
Mentor students in university applications for Humanities, Social Sciences, and related fields
Support students preparing for essay competitions and geography Olympiads
Guide students with Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or similar research projects
Encourage participation in debate, Model UN, environmental clubs, and literary societies
Provide additional support for students requiring extra help
Foster a love of reading, writing, and global awareness
Curriculum Development:
Develop comprehensive scheme of work for both subjects
Create engaging teaching resources and materials
Integrate technology, multimedia, and digital tools
Stay current with Cambridge curriculum updates and best practices
Contribute to departmental curriculum review and enhancement
Develop interdisciplinary units and projects
Professional Collaboration:
Participate in Humanities department meetings and planning
Collaborate with English and Geography colleagues
Work with other departments on cross-curricular initiatives
Engage in professional development and training
Contribute to school improvement initiatives
Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress
Participate in school events, open days, and parent conferences
Essential:
Bachelor's degree in English, Geography, or related field (required)
Valid teaching certification/license from home country (e.g., QTS, PGCE, State License)
Minimum 2-3 years of teaching experience, preferably in international schools
Experience teaching both A-Level English and A-Level Geography (or willingness to teach both)
Strong knowledge of Cambridge A-Level curricula in both subjects
Excellent command of English (native or near-native proficiency)
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Passion for both English and Geography education
Commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and learning
Cultural sensitivity and adaptability
Preferred:
Dual qualification or strong background in both English and Geography
Master's degree in English, Geography, Education, or related field
Experience teaching in international schools, particularly in Asia/China
Experience with Cambridge A-Level examination preparation
Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
Experience leading fieldwork and educational trips
Familiarity with environmental education and sustainability
Experience with essay writing instruction and university counseling
Proficiency in educational technology and digital tools
Subject Knowledge - English:
Strong understanding of literary analysis and criticism
Experience teaching various genres (poetry, prose, drama)
Knowledge of canonical and contemporary texts
Expertise in academic writing and composition
Experience with language analysis and linguistics
Subject Knowledge - Geography:
Strong understanding of physical and human geography
Knowledge of contemporary global issues (climate change, migration, urbanization)
Experience with geographical fieldwork and research methods
Familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis
