Position Overview

We are seeking a creative and passionate Art Teacher to join our arts department. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality art instruction to senior high school students, inspire creativity and artistic expression, and prepare students for university applications and artistic careers.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning:

  • Teach Visual Arts to senior high school students

  • Deliver engaging lessons in various media and techniques

  • Develop students' technical skills, creativity, and artistic expression

  • Guide students in art history, theory, and contemporary practices

  • Facilitate studio work across multiple disciplines (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, etc.)

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and skill levels

  • Integrate technology and digital media into art instruction

Portfolio Development:

  • Guide students in building professional art portfolios

  • Prepare students for art school and university applications

  • Provide mentorship on portfolio presentation and curation

  • Support students in developing their artistic voice and style

  • Advise students on art career pathways and opportunities

Studio Management:

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring studio environment

  • Manage art supplies, equipment, and materials

  • Ensure proper use and care of art tools and technology

  • Supervise students in the use of specialized equipment

  • Implement and enforce studio safety protocols

  • Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed

Student Projects & Exhibitions:

  • Organize student art exhibitions and showcases

  • Coordinate school art displays and installations

  • Encourage participation in art competitions and festivals

  • Facilitate visits to galleries, museums, and cultural sites

  • Support student involvement in community art projects

  • Document and celebrate student achievements

Assessment & Evaluation:

  • Design formative and summative assessments

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work

  • Monitor and track student progress and skill development

  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement

  • Evaluate both technical proficiency and creative development

  • Support students in self-assessment and reflection

Curriculum Development:

  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans and units of study

  • Align instruction with curriculum standards and learning objectives

  • Integrate cross-curricular connections

  • Incorporate contemporary art practices and cultural diversity

  • Create engaging projects that challenge and inspire students

  • Adapt curriculum based on student interests and needs

Student Support:

  • Mentor students in developing artistic skills and confidence

  • Provide individualized guidance and support

  • Encourage creative risk-taking and experimentation

  • Support students with additional learning needs

  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment

  • Promote growth mindset and resilience

Professional Collaboration:

  • Participate in departmental meetings and school events

  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects

  • Engage in professional development opportunities

  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress

  • Contribute to school cultural events and exhibitions

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or related field

  • Valid teaching certification/license preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, preferably with senior students

  • Strong portfolio of personal artistic work

  • Proficiency in various art media and techniques

  • Experience with portfolio preparation and university counseling

  • Excellent English communication skills (native or near-native)

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

  • Passion for art education and student development

  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to teaching

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Fine Arts or Art Education

  • Experience in international or bilingual schools

  • Experience with international art curricula (IB, AP, A-Level)

  • Proficiency in digital art tools and software (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)

  • Experience with photography, printmaking, or 3D design

  • Familiarity with Chinese culture and educational context

  • Experience organizing exhibitions and art events

  • Knowledge of art therapy or inclusive art education

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: 20,000 - 25,000 RMB/month (after tax - excellent net salary)
