Position Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified IBMYP Chemistry Teacher to join our science department. The successful candidate will deliver engaging MYP Sciences instruction with a focus on chemistry, inspire scientific inquiry, and prepare students for progression to the IB Diploma Programme while fostering a love for science and environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning:

  • Teach IBMYP Sciences (Chemistry focus) to MYP Years 4-5 students

  • Deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with MYP framework

  • Develop students' understanding of chemistry concepts and principles

  • Integrate MYP key concepts, related concepts, and global contexts

  • Facilitate laboratory experiments and scientific investigations

  • Use innovative teaching methods and educational technology

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs

MYP-Specific Duties:

  • Plan units using MYP unit planning framework

  • Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills into teaching

  • Develop criterion-based assessments (A, B, C, D criteria)

  • Guide students in interdisciplinary learning experiences

  • Support students in MYP Personal Project (if applicable)

  • Ensure compliance with IB MYP standards and practices

  • Attend IB workshops and professional development

Laboratory Management:

  • Plan and supervise hands-on laboratory activities

  • Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols

  • Maintain and manage laboratory equipment and supplies

  • Develop students' practical skills and scientific methodology

  • Guide students in designing and conducting investigations

  • Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals

  • Supervise safe use of laboratory facilities and equipment

Assessment & Evaluation:

  • Design formative and summative assessments aligned with MYP criteria

  • Assess students using MYP Sciences criteria (Knowing and Understanding, Inquiring and Designing, Processing and Evaluating, Reflecting on Impacts)

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work

  • Monitor and track student progress toward MYP achievement levels

  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement

  • Moderate assessments with colleagues to ensure consistency

  • Prepare students for progression to IBDP Sciences

Student Support:

  • Mentor students in developing scientific inquiry skills

  • Support students with additional learning needs

  • Challenge high-achieving students with extension activities

  • Encourage participation in science competitions and projects

  • Foster environmental awareness and sustainability

  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment

  • Support students' social-emotional development

Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units

  • Participate in MYP team planning and coordination

  • Work with other science teachers to ensure curriculum continuity

  • Contribute to whole-school MYP initiatives

  • Engage with parents and school community

Professional Collaboration:

  • Participate in departmental meetings and collaborative planning

  • Engage in IB professional development and training

  • Contribute to curriculum review and enhancement

  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress

  • Participate in school events and science exhibitions

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Science Education, or related field

  • Valid teaching certification/license from home country

  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in international schools

  • Experience teaching IBMYP Sciences or equivalent middle school science

  • Strong knowledge of MYP framework, assessment, and philosophy

  • Experience with laboratory instruction and safety management

  • Excellent English communication skills (native or near-native)

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

  • Passion for science education and student development

  • Commitment to IB learner profile and international-mindedness

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Science Education, or related field

  • IB MYP Category 1, 2, or 3 training certification

  • Experience in fully authorized IB World Schools

  • Familiarity with Chinese culture and educational context

  • Experience with eAssessment or MYP ePortfolio

  • Proficiency in educational technology and laboratory software

  • Experience with interdisciplinary teaching and learning

  • Knowledge of sustainability and environmental education
