Position Overview

We are seeking a caring and dynamic ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher to join our primary and kindergarten division. The successful candidate will provide engaging English language instruction to young learners, create a supportive and fun learning environment, and help students develop strong English communication skills while respecting their cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning:

  • Teach ESL to primary and kindergarten students (ages 3-12)

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate, engaging English lessons

  • Develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills

  • Use play-based, interactive, and child-centered teaching approaches

  • Integrate songs, games, stories, and hands-on activities

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and proficiency levels

  • Create immersive English language environment

Language Development:

  • Teach phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills

  • Use Total Physical Response (TPR) and natural language acquisition methods

  • Support English language learners at various proficiency levels

  • Build students' confidence in using English

  • Provide opportunities for student interaction and communication

  • Monitor and track language development progress

  • Use scaffolding strategies to support comprehension

Assessment & Progress Monitoring:

  • Assess students' English language proficiency using appropriate tools

  • Monitor and track individual student progress

  • Use formative assessment methods appropriate for young learners

  • Maintain records of student achievement and language development

  • Identify students needing additional support or extension

  • Provide feedback to parents on student progress

  • Use data to inform instruction and planning

Classroom Management:

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and stimulating classroom environment

  • Establish positive routines and classroom management strategies

  • Manage classroom with patience, warmth, and positive reinforcement

  • Ensure classroom safety and cleanliness

  • Organize materials, resources, and learning centers

  • Display student work and celebrate achievements

  • Maintain inventory of classroom supplies

Student Support:

  • Support students' social-emotional development

  • Address individual learning needs with patience and understanding

  • Provide additional support for students requiring extra help

  • Challenge advanced learners with extension activities

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with each student

  • Promote positive behavior and social skills

  • Foster a love of learning and curiosity

Parent Communication:

  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress

  • Provide guidance on supporting English learning at home

  • Address parent questions and concerns promptly

  • Build positive partnerships with families

  • Participate in parent meetings and conferences

  • Support parents in understanding bilingual education approach

Curriculum Planning:

  • Develop lesson plans aligned with school curriculum and learning objectives

  • Create engaging teaching materials and resources

  • Integrate cross-curricular connections

  • Adapt curriculum based on student needs and interests

  • Incorporate technology and digital tools appropriately

  • Collaborate with Chinese teachers on bilingual programme

Professional Collaboration:

  • Participate in grade-level team meetings and planning

  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and instruction

  • Work with learning support staff for students with additional needs

  • Engage in professional development and training

  • Participate in school events, assemblies, and activities

  • Contribute to school improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree (any field; Education, English, TESOL preferred)

  • TEFL/TESOL certificate (minimum 120 hours) or teaching certification

  • Experience teaching English to young learners (kindergarten and primary age)

  • Native or near-native English proficiency

  • Excellent pronunciation and clear speaking voice

  • Understanding of child development (ages 3-12)

  • Experience with ESL/EAL teaching methodologies

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with children

  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability

  • Clean criminal background check

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, TESOL, or related field

  • Valid teaching license from home country

  • CELTA, DELTA, or PGCE certification

  • Experience teaching in China or Asia

  • Experience in bilingual schools

  • Knowledge of phonics programmes (Jolly Phonics, Letterland, etc.)

  • Proficiency in educational technology for young learners

  • Basic Mandarin Chinese skills (helpful but not required)

  • Experience with curriculum areas (literacy, numeracy, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Up to 25,000 RMB/month (negotiable based on qualifications and experience)
