Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced ESL Teacher to join our primary division. The successful candidate will deliver engaging English language instruction within an IBPYP/IPC framework, support students in developing strong English communication skills, and contribute to our international curriculum programmes while fostering global citizenship and intercultural understanding.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning:

  • Teach ESL to primary students across various grade levels

  • Deliver engaging lessons aligned with IBPYP and/or IPC curriculum frameworks

  • Develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills

  • Integrate English language learning with units of inquiry

  • Use differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs

  • Incorporate technology and digital tools into language teaching

  • Create immersive, student-centered learning environment

IBPYP/IPC Implementation:

  • Plan and facilitate language learning within transdisciplinary units (IBPYP) or thematic units (IPC)

  • Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills into teaching

  • Support students in developing IB learner profile attributes

  • Use inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches

  • Connect language learning to global contexts and real-world applications

  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers on unit planning

Language Development:

  • Teach phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills

  • Support English language learners at various proficiency levels

  • Use scaffolding strategies to support comprehension and production

  • Build students' confidence and fluency in English

  • Provide opportunities for authentic language use

  • Monitor and track language acquisition progress

  • Use formative assessment to inform instruction

Assessment & Progress Monitoring:

  • Assess students' English language proficiency using appropriate tools

  • Monitor and track individual student progress toward language goals

  • Use formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum

  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement

  • Identify students needing additional support or extension

  • Provide regular feedback to students and parents

  • Use data to plan targeted instruction

Student Support:

  • Support students' social-emotional development

  • Provide additional support for students requiring extra help

  • Challenge advanced learners with extension activities

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with each student

  • Promote positive behavior and classroom community

  • Support students in developing independence and self-regulation

  • Create inclusive, welcoming learning environment

Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers on curriculum integration

  • Work with grade-level teams on unit planning and assessment

  • Participate in collaborative planning meetings

  • Share expertise and resources with colleagues

  • Work with learning support staff for students with additional needs

  • Contribute to whole-school language policy and practice

Parent Communication:

  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress

  • Provide guidance on supporting English learning at home

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences

  • Address parent questions and concerns promptly

  • Build positive partnerships with families

  • Support parents in understanding IBPYP/IPC philosophy

Professional Development:

  • Participate in professional development and IB training

  • Engage in reflective practice and continuous improvement

  • Stay current with ESL best practices and research

  • Contribute to curriculum development and review

  • Participate in school events and activities

  • Collaborate with Chinese and international staff

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field

  • Valid teaching certification/license from home country

  • TEFL/TESOL certificate (minimum 120 hours)

  • Minimum 2-3 years of ESL/EAL teaching experience in primary schools

  • Experience with IBPYP, IPC, or international curricula

  • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theory and methodology

  • Excellent English communication skills (native or near-native)

  • Understanding of differentiated instruction and scaffolding strategies

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

  • Cultural sensitivity and international-mindedness

  • Commitment to child-centered learning

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Education

  • IBPYP Category 1, 2, or 3 training

  • Experience in international schools in Asia/China

  • Experience with bilingual education

  • Proficiency in educational technology for language learning

  • Knowledge of language assessment tools (WIDA, CEFR, etc.)

  • Additional language skills (Mandarin Chinese advantageous)

  • Experience with inquiry-based and concept-driven learning

  • Familiarity with Chinese culture and educational context

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: 20,000 - 26,000 RMB/month (after tax - excellent net salary)
